Skincare conditions
Overview
Babies and children are susceptible to a wide range of skin conditions. These can range from generally short-term conditions like nappy rash and cradle cap to longer term conditions like eczema.
Many childrens’ rashes will clear up by themselves after a few days. Others may need to be treated with creams or ointments. Most rashes are nothing to be concerned about. However, you should phone 999 or go to A&E if the rash is accompanied by:
- Neck stiffness
- Aversion to light
- Confusion
- Shaking
- Fever
- Cold hands and feet
These could be signs of meningitis. However, most skin conditions aren’t serious.
Treating skin conditions
There are many skin conditions that could be affecting your child, and identifying the right one is very important. A bright red rash on the cheeks could be slapped cheek syndrome, which generally doesn’t need treatment. Dry, itchy and cracked skin could be eczema which can be soothed with barrier creams.
An itchy, red circular rash could be ringworm. Your GP can prescribe lotions to treat this. Nappy rash, red patches around the bottom, is probably the most common skin condition among children. This can be soothed with antiseptic cream.
Skin condition treatments from Rightdose
At Rightdose, we supply a wide range of creams and ointments to treat most childhood skin conditions. These will help to soothe itching, which in turn will stop your child scratching. After all, scratching can damage the skin further, increasing the chances of infection.
