Treatments for Prescription Rosacea
Overview
Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness across your nose, cheeks and forehead, that may be constant or come and go. Rosacea most commonly affects fair-skinned people and can show symptoms at any age, but most often starts when you are between 30 and 60 years old.
Causes
It’s thought that the main symptoms of rosacea are due to a widening of the small blood vessels in your face. The exact cause of this is unknown but it may be due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. However, it’s not caused by poor personal hygiene.
For some people, the symptoms of rosacea are constant, however others may find that certain triggers may make things worse. Some common triggers include:
- Alcohol
- Spicy food
- Cheese
- Caffeine
- Hot drinks
- Aerobic exercise
- Stress
Once you identify triggers for your own rosacea symptoms you should try and avoid them if possible. Other things that you can do to help include:
- Wearing a high SPF (30+) sunscreen every day.
- Avoiding heat, sunlight or humid conditions if possible.
- Covering your face in cold weather.
- Using gentle skincare products for sensitive skin.
- Cleaning your eyelids at least once a day if you have blepharitis.
- Take steps to manage stress.

About Mirvaso Gel
Mirvaso gel contains the drug Brimonidine. Mirvaso gel works by narrowing the small blood vessels on your face, decreasing the blood flow which causes redness of the skin.
Apply the gel thinly to the entire face once daily until symptoms go away. You should avoid contact with your eyelids, lips and the inside of your nose. Wash hands after using. If you are using other creams or cosmetics on your face, these should only be applied once the Mirvaso gel has dried.
